The SFAA is engineer Certified. The unit has a primary impact load capacity of 8,450lbs, or 4,225lbs per anchor bolt. The SFAA also has a secondary reserve impact load capacity of 1,678lbs, or 839lbs per anchor. In the event that a worker falls off the edge of the roof the SFAA will provide the anchor point required, for the appropriate equipment, that will arrest the worker fall and not permit further release or lowering.
The CSA Standard test for a fall arrester is to drop a 220lb weight a vertical distance of 6'. This results in an impact load of 2,500 - 3,000lbs. This is well within the range of the capabilities of the unit.
The recommended use of this SFAA is to provide a secure anchor point for a life line. It is always recommended that a 3' shock absorbing lanyard be used in the system. This will reduce the shock load on the anchor significantly (to below 2,000lbs) as well as the shock load to the worker involved in the fall. The manufacturer recommends that the SFAA be used as a fall arrester for a maximum of 2 persons, 1 per anchor ring.
The SFAA can be used for work positioning and fall restraining. In this case additional workers can be attached to a limit of 6, or 3 per anchor ring. If the average person weighs 220lbs, each worker would have a 5:1 safety ratio for slipping and falling on the roof.
